The end is in sight for Blue Bloods. The beloved procedural drama is half a season away from wrapping up a decade and a half of stories. It’s a tall order, but one that the cast and crew seem more than capable of pulling off. Pulling it off without getting emotional is another story, though. The social media feeds for the cast, particularly Donnie Wahlberg, has been littered with touching moments.
Blue Bloods writer and executive producer Siobhan Byrne O’Connor decided to get in on the act. She posted behind-the-scenes photos on her Instagram, and confirmed that the show has wrapped up its production for good. She also provided comfort to fans who have been saddened by the show’s impending departure in the form of a caption.

Her unlikely inspiration? A children’s book. I read a children’s book recently that had two characters on a cross country journey,” O’Connor explained. “At one point, one asks what’s more important, the destination or the journey and the other answers that it’s neither, it’s the company.” The EP applied this thinking to the the show:
“That’s Blue Bloods in a nutshell. To all the writers, directors, cast and crew… Thank you for your wonderful company.”

Donnie Wahlberg, who posted a tribute video to the show on IG, also posed for a photo with his Blue Bloods co-stars Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray. “Last day feels,” he wrote on his Instagram Story. “I love them so much it hurts.”

Ramirez posted a message of her own after her daughter gifted her with a handmade police badge. “Last day of Blue Bloods,” she stated. “I don’t have the word yet to express my joy or sadness but at least I have a homemade sticker shield from Violet to replace the one I had to give back to props today.”
It wasn’t all wistful reflection, though. The cast and crew of Blue Bloods celebrated the final episode of the show with a wrap party on June 24. According to the New York Post, the party took place at the New York restaurant Elio’s.
