Boston Blue, the new CBS show starring Donnie Wahlberg, is slated for a fall 2025 release. The series will serve as an expansion of the Blue Bloods universe, with the New Kids on the Block singer continuing the story of his character, Danny Reagan, as a member of the Boston PD.
Blue Bloods ended after 14 seasons on CBS in 2024. Donnie is keeping Danny’s legacy alive in this new exciting chapter as the character moves to Boston.
Which of his Blue Bloods costars will be appearing on Boston Blue? So far, no official casting announcements have been made, but there are a couple of key characters we would love to see make their way to Boston Blue.
Maria Baez
Detective Maria Baez became a staple on Blue Bloods ever since she joined the show in season 3. As the longtime friend and partner of Danny in Blue Bloods, fans were hoping to see some sparks fly between the duo in the show’s final episode. The most we got was seeing Danny ask Baez out for pizza in the series finale. Bringing Baez on Boston Blue would give fans closure about their relationship and give us answers to so many questions we still have about whether or not they were endgame.
Joe Hill
Joe Hill first appeared in season 10 of Blue Bloods, with his backstory unraveling as the episodes went on. He worked really hard to form meaningful connections with his family members once they learned he was a member of the Reagan family. We would definitely like to see Joe and Danny’s bond continue to grow in Boston Blue.
Frank Reagan
Danny and Frank Reagan’s bond is one for the books. We would love to see Danny turn to Frank for more advice on how to navigate his career and more special moments between the pair. Plus, an insider told Closer that Tom Selleck is not opposed to making a cameo on Boston Blue.
“Tom’s been pretty vocal when it comes to his feelings about the network ending Blue Bloods,” the insider said in February 2025. “He did not want to say goodbye to that role, so naturally he’s very open to coming back and doing cameos on Donnie’s show.”
Jamie Reagan
Talk about brotherly love! Bringing Jamie Reagan onto Boston Blue would not only give us a sweet Reagan family reunion, but maybe viewers would get to see the newest member of the Reagan family too. In the season 14 Blue Bloods finale, Jamie and his wife, Eddie Janko-Reagan, revealed they were expecting their first child together. Fans sadly did not get to see the two become parents once the show ended. An appearance on Boston Blue would give fans a glimpse of the couple and how they’re tackling parenthood while managing their careers.
Henry Reagan
There’s nobody wiser than Henry Reagan. In the Blue Bloods season 14 finale, Henry and Danny sat down for a meaningful conversation about finding someone to come home to. Henry seemingly encouraged Danny to try and further things with Baez. We would love to see Henry appear in Boston for a trip or, at the very least, a phone call with his grandson where he gives out more valuable advice.
