Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe has been going strong for the better part of the last decade. However, it isn’t until the prequel saga of the Duttons that the story picks up pace and moves a generation of viewers and critics alike into investing in the heartbreak and tragedy that follows this particular family of ranchers and cowboys.

1923 brings a sense of foreboding and solitary trauma to the story of the Duttons that was seemingly lost in the Machiavellian politics, violence, and rivalry of Yellowstone. In the unadulterated climate of the era it depicts, Sheridan’s 1923 unapologetically displays tragedy and trauma against the stylish backdrop of Montana.

However, amid the blossoming romances and troubles plaguing the Yellowstone Dutton ranch, one dangerous question takes root in the show’s Season 2 storyline.

Taylor Sheridan grants a royal touch to 1923 Season 2

1923 has established a fan-favorite couple that could rival even the likes of Rip and Beth when it comes to fate and chemistry. Brendan Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer’s Spencer and Alexandra Duttons are as much a blessing to the show as Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are to Yellowstone‘s legacy.

In the volley of research that Taylor Sheridan conducted to bring his 1923 characters to life, there seems to be a crucial detail that caught the viewers’ attention for having a monumental implication on the future of the show. In a recent twist, Sheridan hinted at Julia Schlaepfer’s Alex Dutton possibly being British nobility.

Such a storyline could have a major ripple effect on the show, especially if Taylor Sheridan pursues the trajectory and shows Alexandra having to face the reality of her royal lineage. However, at this point in the series, the fans are more confused about where Alexandra’s true identity as the Countess of Sussex lands her in terms of previous marriage(s) and/or her parentage.

Alex Dutton’s past brought into question

Since the moment Alexandra was identified as British nobility, fans have been plagued with questions about her fate as part of the English royalty. Her title poses a separate set of problems as she needs to be married first in order to inherit the title from her husband. However, as the events of Season 1 proved, Alex was merely engaged, and her former fiancé was killed at the hands of Spencer Dutton.

Despite the convoluted history that colors Alex Dutton’s past, Taylor Sheridan delivers a story that has captured the audience’s imagination and pulled at their heartstrings. After being forcibly separated in the aftermath of her ex-fiancé’s death, 1923 Season 2 will follow Alex’s journey as she makes her way across an ocean and back into the arms of her husband.

While the majority of the current season will follow the trials and tribulations that await Spencer and Alex Dutton on their individual journeys, Taylor Sheridan also needs to pan the camera back a little and provide a little context and history as to the past of Alexandra and the course of events that led her to cross paths with Spencer Dutton in 1923.
